Meridian is a mobile-software company that helps location-based businesses engage with their visitors. Popular retail outlets, hotels, hospitals, subways, airports, museums, and more use our platform to build and maintain mobile apps that take advantage of GPS and other location-aware technologies.
Our flagship product is the Meridian Editor, the first content management system (CMS) for locations. Location-based businesses use our CMS to create beautiful apps to connect with their visitors through turn-by-turn directions, promotions and other location-based services. Once locations try the Meridian Editor out, they're hooked: It dramatically reduces the time and effort it takes to develop and maintain world-class apps.
Mobile-tech industry pundits tell us our indoor navigation is the best they've seen. But we're not stopping there. We're also rolling out other features. Features that locations and our software development partners are helping develop on top of our platform. Product search and location-based offers for retailers. Conference room booking for corporate campuses. Staff directories for hospitals.
We launched in 2011 in the mobile-addicted city of Portland, Ore., with a world-famous bookstore, the most popular U.S. soccer stadium and one of the first museums to offer indoor navigation to their visitors. We then expanded to Southern California with the U.S.'s largest urban cultural center (Balboa Park), the transit system in New York City (the MTA), Boston Children's Hospital, and the Venetian casino in Las Vegas. And in November 2012 we made our "indoor GPS" and turn-by-turn directions technology available via a software development kit (SDK) to third-party developers of apps for everyone from the largest retail store in the U.S. to an airport in Australia.
Meridian was founded by the mobile-development veterans behind apps for Barnes & Noble (Webby winner), the American Museum of Natural History (the first "indoor GPS" app), Nike and more. We have offices in San Francisco and Portland, yet are often found roaming the halls of our customers' locations.
Meridian releases SDK's for indoor turn-by-turn navigation & location awareness.

Current founders of Meridian start former company Spotlight Mobile, emerging out of the Human-Computer Interaction Lab at Cornell University.
Kiyo Kubo | CEO
Kiyo Kubo brings the perspective of both a businessperson and a software developer to his role as CEO of Meridian. With more than 10 years of building and selling mobile apps to large location-based businesses—everyone from Barnes & Noble to the Smithsonian Institute—Kiyo co-founded Meridian to offer a much needed platform for the industry. Kiyo built his first mobile app at Cornell University where he double-majored in computer science and economics. In his spare time, Kiyo can be found speaking at mobile-industry events all the way from Dubai to his home in the Bay Area. Prior to Meridian, Kiyo was CEO of Spotlight Mobile, a well-known custom app developer.
Nick Farina | CTO
Nick Farina is the rare "designer-developer" technical co-founder necessary for leadership in today's mobile industry. Nick F. holds more than 10 years of experience building mobile apps for location-based businesses including such notable entities as Nike's retail efforts and the American Museum of Natural History. It was the work for the American Museum of Natural History—the first indoor GPS-like app—that inspired the founding of Meridian, a platform for all types of location-based businesses. Nick F. graduated with a degree in computer science from Cornell University, where he first met Kiyo, his co-founder, while collaborating on a campus app. Nick F. is a popular mobile blogger whose posts receive hundreds of thousands of visitors and land him speaking gigs at industry events. Nick F. was CTO of Spotlight Mobile before his co-founding of Meridian.
Jeff Hardison | VP of Marketing and Business Development
The first non-technical hire at Meridian, Jeff Hardison develops and executes the mobile software company's marketing and partnership programs, and is a team member in the sales efforts. Jeff began his career 14 years ago at the integrated-marketing agency KVO—and, later, Omnicom, which acquired KVO—and has worked with technology startups and established companies ever since. He has managed marketing efforts for everyone from Amazon.com and HP to startups successfully acquired by multinational companies. Jeff earned his bachelor's degree from Wittenberg University. Jeff enjoys reading and biking with his family—yet not at the same time.
Nick Newton | VP of Operations and General Counsel
Nick Newton has a dual role at Meridian as VP of operations and general counsel. His unique background as a corporate lawyer, financial controller and IT project manager makes him integral to Meridian's development as a startup. Prior to Meridian, Nick N. was not only an attorney with Ater Wynne, LLP—he was Meridian's attorney. Nick N. earned his bachelor's degree from Brigham Young University and a J.D. from University of Oregon. When opportunity arises, Nick N. enjoys biking and hiking in Oregon's outdoors with his family.
